All classes at Art Paint Draw are for students ages 14-adult and are in person at our store in Cottonwood AZ. Classes require a minimum of 4 students enrolled with a maximum of 8. Refund policy: If we don’t meet the minimum within one day of class starting, class may be cancelled and students given a full refund. APRIL CLASSES

Watercolor Wednesdays! (3hrs)

Wednesday April 2, 2025 1-4pm $37.50

Ages 14+ Beginner: In this exploratory class we will discover the magic of what watercolor paint can do. We will experiment with color mixing, water bottle spritzing, and testing out different types of paper. The class is intended to be upbeat, relaxed, and most of all fun! No experience with watercolors required. A class kit including paper and a palette with six colors of professional grade watercolor paints (QoR watercolor by Golden) will be available to purchase from Art Paint Draw. Brushes will be available to borrow or purchase for the class.

Teacher: Nita Marlette

Teacher Bio: Nita is a signature member of the Northern Arizona Watercolor Society. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area where she was heavily influenced by the watercolor style of the "California Artists" (1920's-1940's American Regionalist Movement). In Arizona, the Southwestern architecture and Sedona's rocky landscapes have become her favorite subjects to paint.

Color Theory for Landscapes (Oil Paint) (3hrs)

Ages 14+ Intermediate (prior drawing/painting experience required): This workshop explores how color theory applies to landscape painting, emphasizing color mixing, atmospheric perspective, and light temperature. Students will learn to analyze the natural world through a painter’s lens, using oil paint to create depth, mood, and harmony in their landscapes. The class will cover practical techniques such as color relationships, warm and cool color balance, and how to mix realistic yet expressive colors. By the end of the session, students will have a small landscape painting demonstrating their understanding of color theory in action.

Teacher Bio: Ben P Norton is an artist based out of Rimrock, AZ. Originally from Nashville, TN, Ben has worked in museums, colleges, and both non-profit and commercial galleries as an artist and educator. For the past nine years, he has taught a range of classes in Painting, Drawing, and 2-D Design as a professor at Yavapai College.

So You Want to Make Comics?! (1.5hrs)

Ages 14+ Intermediate Level (prior drawing experience needed): This class will cover everything you need to know about publishing, marketing, and networking to get your comics out there. Hands on instruction will include the basics in comic creation and methods to pencil, ink, letter, and layout your comic book pages. Materials for use in class will be provided (pencils, pens, markers, etc) by Art Paint Draw. Space is limited to 8 students.

Ages 14+ Beginner Level: Paint along with Grace Wu in this sweet Easter themed beginner workshop. You will create your painting step by step using professional art supplies. Learn how to mix and apply colors.

All materials to create your painting are included in the price including a Windsor Newton 11"x14" canvas and a palette with professional Golden fluid acrylics. Brushes will be available to borrow in class as well. Sign up soon as space is limited to only 8 students!

Teacher Bio: Grace Wu is an artist and a grief specialist. She was born in Hong Kong, educated in New York and has been in the United States for 25 years. She obtained a B.A in Fine Arts in New York and an M.A in Community Health. Grace has been teaching painting sessions around the Verde Valley

Adventures In Sketchbook Journaling! (3hrs)

Ages 14+ Beginner/Intermediate: Previous experience with watercolor may be helpful but not required. Explore ways to illustrate your pages and tell your story using simple illustrations, creative formatting and personal themes. Sketchbooks are a one-of-kind work of art, unique to you through your marks & memories from travels to doodles to notes. Be ready to explore creative page layout ideas, lettering and composite sketches. Please bring your imagination, humor & willingness to explore.

Ages 14+ Advanced (professional techniques for experienced artists): This workshop will guide students through the expressive and versatile medium of chalk pastels to create vibrant, dynamic portraits. Emphasizing color, value, and blending techniques, students will learn how to build form, capture likeness, and create depth using soft and hard pastels. The class will focus on layering colors, achieving smooth transitions, and using bold marks to enhance expression. By the end of the session, students will have a completed or near-completed pastel portrait with a strong understanding of pastel techniques for portraiture.

Abstract Painting Techniques (Acrylic) (3hrs)

Ages 14+ Intermediate (prior drawing/painting experience required): This workshop explores various techniques for creating dynamic and expressive abstract paintings with acrylics. Students will experiment with color, texture, and composition to develop their own unique abstract styles. The class will cover multiple techniques, including layering, glazing, palette knife application, and gestural brushwork. By the end of the session, students will have created a series of small studies or one larger abstract painting incorporating these methods.
