Registration and Refund Policy

All classes at Art Paint Draw are for students ages 14 and above and are in person at our store in Cottonwood AZ. Classes require a minimum of 3 students. Refund policy: If we don’t meet the minimum enrollment, the class will be canceled and students given a full refund. For classes that do meet the minimum enrollment, there are no refunds within 1 week of class start. For questions please email amy@artpaintdraw.com

SEPTEMBER CLASSES

Paintalong Watercolor Pencils: Cactus (2hrs)

Tuesday September 8th 2026 1-3pm $30

Ages 14+ Beginner Level:

Step by step instructions takes you through the process of creating a postcard sized painting of a cactus from this photograph using watercolor pencils. Good for beginners and continuing artists. Space is limited to 7 students. Materials for use in class provided by Art Paint Draw.

Watercolor Wednesdays! Intermediate (3hrs)

Wednesday September 9th 1-4pm $45.00

Ages 14+ Intermediate: Come and explore tips, tricks & techniques that will bring your watercolor MAGIC to the next level. If you have taken any of Nita's Watercolor Wednesday! Beginner classes or have watercolor experience, then this is the class for you! Bring your enthusiasm, humor & willingness to explore this wonderful medium. Class size limited to 5 students.

Teacher Bio: Nita is a signature member of the Northern Arizona Watercolor Society. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area where she was heavily influenced by the watercolor style of the "California Artists" (1920's-1940's American Regionalist Movement). In Arizona, the Southwestern architecture and Sedona's rocky landscapes have become her favorite subjects to paint.

“Drawing Pet Portraits and Animals with Jan” (3hrs)

Thursday September 10th, 2026 1-4pm $45

Ages14+ Beginner: Learn how to draw your pet's portrait with Jan. If you don’t have a pet and want to draw animals, you are still welcome. We will be working on the face of your pets, dogs, cats, zebras. All animals are welcome. This is a beginner class you will be taught how to identify shapes, outlines, highlights, shadows, and fun colors in Jan's quirky style. You will go home with a pet portrait that you drew. All supplies including pencils, fine liners, and ohuhu markers will be provided by Art Paint Draw.

Please bring in a photo of your pet looking straight at the camera. If you don’t have one, a variety of animal reference photos will be supplied for you.

Beginner Gelli Printing: Textures, Layers, + Botanicals (3hrs)

Friday September 11th 1-4pm $45

Ages 14+ Beginner Level: Explore the wonderful versatility of mono-printing using a Gelli plate in this 3 hour beginners class. We’ll start with simple textures and work up to layering textures and colors for interesting compositions. Students will learn how to add botanicals to their prints. Also, we’ll talk about how to care for your durable yet delicate Gelli plate, and cover different paint options. All materials for this class will be provided by Art Paint Draw and Trish.

Teacher Bio: Trish has been facilitating creative experiences for over 30 years. At trade shows, in retail stores and in her own workshops. It’s all about letting go, having fun and enjoying the process.

Painting for Beginners in Acrylic: Modern Abstract Summer Harvest (3hrs)

Saturday September 12th 1-4pm $50

Ages14+ Beginner: Come learn the basics of creating your own painting! We will start with a brief lesson on color mixing and how to design a painting representing this year's summer harvest of fruits and vegetables in a modern abstract style. We will cover how to create and design shapes that flow together, with colors that pop out and catch the eye. We will also cover how to create shadows underneath objects and how to shade certain areas of the fruits and vegetables to to show shadow areas. All materials for use in class are provided by Art Paint Draw including an 11"x14" canvas board and Golden professional brand acrylic paint.

Teacher: Erinn McCusker

Teacher Bio: Erinn McCusker paints the energy of the universe by using bright emotion-filled colors and loose brushstrokes. She has painted landscapes in Maine, New Hampshire, Arizona, New Mexico, and Turks and Caicos. She has taught painting classes for beginners and intermediate level artists for many years while living in Maine. She loves sharing her joy of painting!

OCTOBER CLASSES

Portrait Fundamentals Series I (October)

4-week series, Tuesdays 12-3pm (October 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th) $210 total (12 hours)

"The Reference Is Not the Boss" Learn to build stronger portraits by focusing on structure, likeness, value, and what matters most instead of getting lost copying every detail. This intermediate series of classes is for students with drawing experience and their own painting materials. Students can work in the painting medium of their choice; oil, acrylic, watercolor, or soft pastel. In each class Mary will guide you through specific fundamental aspects of portraiture as you work from your own individual photos (additional reference photos will be available as well). This will be a self-paced class limited to 6 students per series allowing ample time for individual instruction and critique. Full materials list is linked here

Teacher Bio: Mary Rochelle Burnham is a professional portrait artist, illustrator, author, and teacher with a BFA in Illustration. Her background includes commissioned portraits, courtroom sketching, and teaching drawing and painting in Northern Arizona.

Plein Air Basics (in oil) $54

Ages 14+ Intermediate (prior oil painting experience): Curious about painting outdoors but not sure where to start? This 3-hour workshop is designed as a practical introduction to plein air oil painting, with a strong focus on the tools, setup, and strategies you need to work outside. We’ll cover everything from choosing the right portable easel and organizing your materials to selecting a strong composition and working efficiently as the light changes. Students will learn how to simplify what they see, mix color quickly, and approach outdoor painting with confidence. Most of the class will focus on equipment, packing, and setup, making this ideal for beginners to plein air or studio painters looking to transition outdoors. Students will complete a small study during class while applying these techniques. The workshop will take place inside at the Art Paint Draw classroom.

Teacher Bio: Ben P Norton is an artist based out of Rimrock, AZ. Originally from Nashville, TN, Ben has worked in museums, colleges, and both non-profit and commercial galleries as an artist and educator. For the past nine years, he has taught a range of classes in Painting, Drawing, and 2-D Design as a professor at Yavapai College.
